Fund Raising with Food: Cooking Class Success!

Peconic Bay Zonta's seventh annual cooking fundraiser, hosted on September 28, 2022, by club president, club president, Annika Shapiro, was a big success, raising more than $1,200 for scholarships and service projects.

Shapiro demonstrated how to cook six dishes derived from Asian countries, such as coconut carrot soup, Vietnamese noodle salad and chicken satay with peanut sauce. Participants sampled each of the delicious dishes and got recipes to take home.

Shapiro also spoke to the group about human trafficking, the unlawful act of coercing individuals into forced labor or sexual exploitation. Stopping human trafficking is a major goal of Zonta International, a global organization that seeks to empower women worldwide through service and advocacy. Peconic Bay Zonta is a local chapter of Zonta International and serves eastern Long Island.
