Peconic Bay Zonta Bookmarks Say NO to Violence Against Women

To publicize Zonta International’s 16-day campaign, “Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women,” November 25 to December 10, Peconic Bay Zonta created bookmarks, which they circulated to local public libraries in Brookhaven, Patchogue, Shoreham, and Riverhead, as well as the Suffolk County Community College library in Riverhead, The Butterfly Effect Project, Define Fitness in Wading River, East End Arts Music School in Riverhead, and the Congregational Church of Patchogue.

Designed by Alicia Parrott, the daughter of Peconic Bay Zonta member Diane Greenberg, the colorful bookmarks feature Zonta’s “Say No” tagline, as well as the National Domestic Violence hotline: 800.799.7233.

Peconic Bay Zonta encompasses the East End of Long Island, and is affiliated with Zonta International, a nonprofit organization that seeks to build a better world for women and girls.

Thirty percent of women worldwide report that they have experienced some form of physical and/or sexual violence by an intimate partner. More than 30,000 women per year, or 82 per day, are killed by an intimate partner. Also, cyber violence is rampant. Seventy-three percent of women are abused online. They are either subjects of harassment and/or public shaming, or threatened with violence, including sexual assault and murder.
