Aloha!

Club member Mona Rowe returned from a family visit to Hawaii and brought back special ingredients for a Hawaiian-themed meal at Peconic Bay's September dinner meeting. We enjoyed poi, lomi lomi salmon, pipi kaula, roasted sweet potato salad, haole salad, fresh pineapple with coconut cookies, pumpkin bars and a raspberry tart. All delicious!

Kay Jones shared with the group that she attended a Zonta International convention in Honolulu in the year 2000. Zonta's next international meeting is in 2014 in Orlando. Kay said she’s tempted by Florida! Click here for more information on the 62nd Zonta International Convention.

Peconic Bay's September meeting focused on planning for our November service project for Maureen's Haven. This activity is being organized by Liala Strotman, who called into the meeting from New Jersey.

We also discussed details of the fall scholarship we will award to a female student who has completed Level III of the English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Suffolk County Community College in Riverhead. Mary Ann Miller, Barbara Pierce and Kay Jones work on that project. Peconic Bay awarded a spring 2013 scholarship. See the June post below about ESL student Veronica Rivas of Amagansett.
