Kung Hei Fat Choy!

Happy New Year!

Peconic Bay Zonta welcomed the Chinese Year of the Rooster with Chinese cooking classes on January 24 and 25, 2017. The classes were organized by Fund Raising Co-chairs Annika Shapiro and Liala Strotman to support the work of Peconic Bay Zonta and Zonta International.

Each class of eight students prepared a classic Chinese meal:
Hot and Sour Soup
New Year's Chicken Salad
Shrimp in Lobster Sauce
Mo-Shu-Ro Pork with Chinese Pancakes
Stir-fry Vegetables
Mandarin Beef

Participants gained hands-on experience learning about Chinese ingredients and cooking methods. Sampling was encouraged, of course, and the conversation naturally turned to the status and lives of women and girls in today’s China.

Both cooking classes were sold out. Peconic Bay Zonta raised $1,025, including $225 in generous donations. Thank you to Annika and Liala for their planning and hard work!
