Bracelets Made by Mayan Hands for Butterfly Girls

At their club meeting and holiday lunch, Peconic Bay Zonta members (from left) Vivian Daddino, Diane Greenberg, Kathy Walker, Annika Shapiro and Geri Kazenoff show off gifts in holiday wrap to be donated to 46 girls in The Butterfly Effect Project, a community-based program that encourages self-confidence and academic success.

The gifts are bracelets made by women in Guatemala (examples shown in the photo below) under the auspices of Mayan Hands, a nonprofit fair-trade organization that provides economic and educational opportunities to Mayan women and girls.

Encompassing the East End of Long Island, Peconic Bay Zonta is affiliated with Zonta International, a nonprofit organization that seeks to build a better world for women and girls.
